News from the Association of Northwest Weavers’ Guilds

The Whidbey Weavers Guild is a member of ANWG. Your WWG membership, therefore, makes you a member of ANWG and eligible for any associated conference discounts while you remain a WWG member.

The ANWG2023 Conference was a blast!  There were hundreds of weavers, spinners, dyers, and fiber people in attendance and it was so good to be together again.

The workshops and seminars were varied and there was something for everyone to explore and learn. We had forgotten how great it is to have workshops and seminars in person. So much talent and inspiration were evident in the exhibits, demonstrations, and the fashion show. And, most of us managed to spend a bit with the vendors. Touching and feeling things make it so much easier to purchase them. The banquet on Friday was delicious and the best of the food offerings was the chocolate buffet on Saturday night….. So much chocolate!

As for our Guild accomplishments, our booth was a hit! We won the award for “Most Creative” and were the runner-up for “People’s Choice”.  Thank you to everyone who provided us with items to display. And, Mary Burks, Mary Ann Straight, and Valerie Gleeson, your fiber food items were a huge hit. One of the judges remarked about how our guild had “something of everything” there.  Also, thank you to Marty Tottenham and Linda LaMay for helping to design the booth and to all who helped set up and transport the display items.

We were well represented in the Noh Coat parade. There were 39 coats in the parade and five of them were created by our members: Joan Chapdelaine, Fine Gelfand, Renate Raythonyi Reusz, Susan Torntore, and Kathy Crone.

It was a great conference and we hope you will think about participating in and attending the next one in 2025. The Washington ANWG Conference will be held June 16-21, 2025 at the Yakima Convention Center, Yakima WA. Plans for the conference are just beginning and there will be many opportunities if you would like to help with the planning. Seattle Weavers Guild will take the lead, but all Washington guilds will be asked to help.
