Working Artists at the Anacortes Arts Festival
The annual Anacortes Arts Festival is a fabulous regional event featuring over 200 artist vendors. Thousands of people attend this juried art show which includes a children’s area, live music, wine and beer gardens and lots of food. Whidbey Weavers Guild was selected to participate with the other working artists.
In our booth we demonstrated various textile arts. Fair visitors learned about our Guild and saw the work we do, and what will be available at our sale in November. They were able to try weaving on any of the various warped looms we had which included a floor loom, table loom, rigid heddle, inkle, card weaving, potholder looms, kumihimo and tapestry weaving. Spinning wheels and some of our Guild spinners were available and many visitors tried their hand at “making yarn”.

We heard wonderful stories of grandmothers or mothers who wove. They told us about weaving experiences when they were children, some classes that were taken in college. Many were fascinated by how looms work. Children discovered how much fun weaving could be, some coming back several times to continue weaving. The table loom was especially a hit with the kids.
It was a wonderful weekend for everyone involved and we have been invited back!
